Dravyagun Vigyan is integral part of ayurveda which deal with the general principle related to the ayurvedic pharmacognocy and pharmacology of the drugs. Literal meaning of Dravya is material or things and Guna means properties. Thus Dravyaguna Vigyan deals with pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of herbal medicinal plants. Dravyaguna Vigyan relates pharmacological action with Rasa, Guna, Virya, Vipaka, Prabhava and Karma of drugs. In Ayurveda properties and action of drugs described in Dravyaguna which involve scientific information on herbs and Ayurvedic formulation including their nature, nomenclature, properties and pharmacological action. Branch also deals with all drugs in the treatment of diseases, their sources, identification, collection, storage and preservation of raw materials of plant origin. Dravyaguna is essentially compilation of ancient Indian medical knowledge. Dravyaguna is the backbone for the clinical practice of Ayurveda. The Dravya or the drugs placed in second prime important place in the Chikitsa Chatuspada (four limb of treatment) in Ayurveda.
